2012-2013 Americorps Experience

Boys As Mentors

During the 2012 - 2013 school year I led two groups of fourth and fifth grade boys respectively through BAM! Curriculum in conjunction with Duluth Public Schools and Men As Peacemakers. Boys as mentors program, building social and emotional skills, supporting positive relationships and recruiting volunteers to serve as positive male role models. I addition to leading weekly meetings and activities over lunch I:

  • Organized and executed an overnight retreat to Camp Amnicon in northern Wisconsin to promote team building, personal self reflection and goal setting
  • Organized a beach cleanup to promote community involvement and service
  • Arranged a Skype meeting with a prominent video game critic who really emphasized the career freedom resulting from rudimentary self discipline and language skills.
